Lost Musicians Portraits- Sketches of the 1920's by David Friedmann

David Friedmann portrayed many celebrated musicians in Berlin’s tumultuous 1920’s. Sketches of outstanding soloists, conductors and members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra were among his most acclaimed works. They include portraits of Jewish artists who fled Nazi Germany, such as Arnold Schoenberg, Szymon Goldberg, Gregor Piatigorsky, Hansi Freudberg Graudan, and James Simon who performed in Theresienstadt and perished in Auschwitz. Later, David Friedmann was persecuted by the Nazis and his artwork was destroyed or lost. A survivor of the Holocaust, he immigrated to Israel after the war and then to the United States. For the first time in Israel, the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Felicja Blumental Music Center and Library, presents David Friedmann’s recovered musician portraits.
